Assessment
Assessment of children’s progress is continuous and records are kept of children’s work. The staff at St Clement Danes take special care to adapt their teaching methods to the particular learning needs of the children and the subject being taught.
Teachers continuously monitor progress through ongoing observations, discussions and informal tests at the end of units of work. Staff use this information to indicate progress being made, to inform teaching and planning and to review and analyse the curriculum. Children are given timely feedback about their performance with the aim of helping them to set targets. Children in Key Stage 2 are taught how to develop learning and performance targets. In so doing, they can take a direct role in setting high expectations and working to achieve these.
National Standardised Testing
- Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) take place at the end of each key stage, in Year 2 and in Year 6.
- Within their first 6 weeks in Reception, children participate in the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA).
- Pupils in Year 1 (and some in Year 2) take part in the statutory Phonics Screening Check.
- In Year 4, pupils complete the Multiplication Tables Check.
