Posted on: 08/05/2025
Today the union flag was raised in our school playground and this week we have held special assemblies at school to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
We began this morning's assembly by singing the National Anthem. Ms Coxhead then read a letter shared by a WWII veteran, Rajinder Singh Dhatt, who was born in India and joined the British Indian Army at the age of 19. Now 103, in his letter he reflects on his time as a soldier. "I witnessed fierce fighting and brave acts by soldiers from many nations," he says. He also remembers his feelings when the war ended: "When peace finally came, we felt both relief and sadness - for the friends we had lost, and the years we could never get back."
